In 1909, the Organization was established by Late Ram Kumar Kedia, who migrated from India to Nepal and embarked on his business journey as a fabric trader alongside his sons, Mahabir Prasad Kedia and Brij Lal Kedia. Initially, they operated fabric outlets in Birgunj and Kathmandu, selling imported goods from India.
Following the passing of the founder, his descendants continued to uphold his legacy with unwavering dedication. During Nepal’s challenging period in 1933, Mahabir Prasad Kedia and Brij Lal Kedia, under their dynamic leadership, propelled the business to unprecedented growth. They diversified into various sectors such as agriculture, steel, textiles, food, and refining, while also venturing into hardware and construction through partnerships with local authorities.
In the third generation, Late Shankar Lal Kedia, a renowned industrialist and philanthropist, further expanded the group’s business interests. He established manufacturing plants for corrugated steel, steel furniture, stainless steel, copper utensils, textiles, umbrellas, socks, and wheat flour. Additionally, he focused on importing foreign products and initiated ventures in media with the founding of Kautilya, a vernacular business weekly. His literary contributions encompassed over a dozen books on religion, social service, and literature.
Today, the organization thrives under the collaborative efforts of Ratan Lal Kedia and the astute leadership of Ankit Kedia. The group has continued its trajectory of success, securing a leading position across its core industries through relentless value creation. With a robust presence in agro, insurance and banking, the organization remains a driving force for economic growth and prosperity in Nepal.
